Solution:

Number of minutes in 4 hours = 60 × 4
[There are 60 minutes in one hour.]

= 6 × 10 × 4
[60 = 6 × 10.]

= 6 × 4 × 10
[Use commutative property.]

= 24 × 10 = 240

So, there are 240 minutes in 4 hours.

Mrs. Zelma's family moved from New Zealand to Australia. They carried 5 suitcases each weighing 80 lb. How much did their luggage weigh altogether?

Solution:

The weight of the total luggage of Mrs. Zelma's family = the number of suitcases × the weight of each suitcase

= 5 × 80
[Substitute the values.]

= 5 × 8 × 10

= 40 × 10 = 400

The luggage weighed 400 lb altogether.

How much would it cost John to buy 5 such cards?

Solution:

Total cost = Cost of one card × Number of cards

= $4 × 5 =$20

Solution:

Weight of each box = 8 kg

Weight of 5 boxes = Weight of 1 box × 5

= 8 kg × 5
